PETER BARDAGLIO is a senior fellow at Second Nature, a non-profit committed to the promotion of sustainability in higher education. He is currently coordinating the Tompkins County Climate Protection Initiative, a regional effort involving education, business, government, and community leaders in the Ithaca area. Bardaglio served as the provost and vice president of academic affairs from 2002 to 2007 at Ithaca College, where he helped lead the campus's nationally recognized sustainability initiative. A professor of history at Goucher College from 1983 to 2002, he was interim vice president and academic dean there from 2000 to 2002. He received several teaching awards at Goucher, including the Outstanding Faculty Award in 1994 and Outstanding Educator of the Year from the Maryland Association of Higher Education in 1998. A Jessie Ball duPont Fellow at the National Humanities Center in 1999-2000, Bardaglio has also taught at the University of Maryland at College Park and University of Exeter in the United Kingdom. He is the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Historical Association, and was awarded the 1996 James Rawley Prize from the Organizations of American Historians for the best book published on the history of race relations in the United States. Bardaglio serves on the Senior Council of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, the editorial board of Sustainability: The Journal of Record, and as a Higher Education Sustainability Fellow with the Society for College and University Planning. He is also vice chair of the board of trustees for the New Roots Charter High School in Ithaca, NY and a member of the Cayuga Medical Center board of directors, the EcoVillage at Ithaca board of directors, and the History Center in Tompkins County board of trustees. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in History at Stanford University and his B.A. in History and English at Brown University.
ANDREA PUTMAN is Director of Corporate Partnerships for the American College and the University Presidents Climate Commitment at Second Nature. She serves on the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Advisory Committee. She is the co-author of The Business Case for Renewable Energy: A Guide for Colleges and Universities, published by NACUBO, APPA, and The Society for College and University Planning, and of two chapters in Walter Simpson, ed., The Green Campus: Meeting the Challenge of Environmental Sustainability, published by APPA. Prior to joining Second Nature, Ms. Putman was an associate with the Cadmus Group where she supported the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program and the Southeast Rebuild Collaborative for higher education. She was president of Green Innovations, a woman-owned small business that provided communications, marketing, and analysis for renewable energy initiatives. She helped establish and develop the Higher Education Committee for the American Council on Renewable Energy; sold wind power for Community Energy, and developed a wind power marketing program for Washington Gas Energy Services. As senior associate with ICF Consulting working in support of Energy Star, Ms. Putman recruited financial partners representing 95 million square feet of corporate real estate and provided support to develop their energy programs. Ms. Putman was an energy analyst for Pepco Energy Services and director of marketing for energy efficiency services. Ms. Putman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from State University of New York at Binghamton and did graduate work in Environmental Education at New York University. She was a certified Energy Manager and is a LEED Accredited Professional. |
